Day 9: I Am the God of the Valleys

God said,

"because the Syrians think that I am only the god of the hills and not that I am the god of the valleys, I’m going to give you victory over this huge army so everyone will know that I am the Lord!"

 - 1 Kings 20:28 (NIV)

That phrase I heard my five year old grandson Isaac say, last winter when we were walking behind our acreage. l had, with much convincing, got Isaac and his sister Grace to accompany me on a beautiful moonlit night. We were halfway down the trail and I was drinking in the moonlight on snowy spruce boughs, I heard that phrase from Isaac , "I don’t think this is such a good idea."

Day 5: Why Do We Do This?

It was a family tradition! We always got the Christmas tree from the wilderness for our home in the Christmas season. Brittany, our daughter, was only three at the time of this particular occasion, as we set out on our annual Christmas tree adventure. It had been a snowy beginning to the winter with powder in some places between knee and hip. As I dug out the tools needed to extract the tree from the forest and put them on the toboggan I thought this shouldn’t be any problem, we will find one close.

Day 4: I DO Want This!

We all share a very common struggle in life. We can waste our life trying to be somebody else! Or maybe a myriad of many other people! It seems sometimes we are on a journey to find a self, yet Psalms 139 tells us that we have been created and knit together and wired by God right in the womb! Perhaps the biggest struggle is to be the one that God has made us to be!

Day 3: I DON'T Want This!

It was the coldest night of the year as a blizzard swept over southern Manitoba causing the snow to hang like a white blanket in front of the car. I know it sounds like the beginning of a cheap novel, but it really was that way!

I was driving a 1967 Pontiac Parisienne, more like a tank on the highway made of steel. It’s a good thing that it was because that was the night that that Parisienne tangled with a tanker and pup trailer on the TransCanada highway. I have to give you just a little back story for you to understand that night.

Day 2: I Love This!

His graph was moving left to upper right just like we all like it! He should’ve loved it! It wasn’t doing it for him though, not like it used to. He had been praying about what God has next for him and wasn’t getting the clarity he wanted. He felt there was more. I guess you could say he knew there was more, he just didn’t know what it was and was frustrated that God didn’t seem to be answering his prayer. He looked across the desk from me, I think expecting me to be the one to tell him what God would have him do next!

Day 1: I Hate This!

After hearing those words I already knew what would follow the uncomfortable silence that ensued. "Everybody gets their piece of me and I am left with nothing! I can’t do it anymore! I don’t want to do it anymore!" After a lot more decompression on her part, the conversation gave way to a point of emotionally charged sobbing. A Very appropriate and much needed release for one whose soul was emptied of any power to respond to the demands of her life.

You did it! We are at the end of 31 days of breakthrough devotionals!

Now I must share a very very important truth with you. After we have been confronted deeply by truth, it is very necessary to have the right response. For that we must return to the book of Nehemiah.

Israel is in a complete rebuild after being destroyed. They have rebuilt the temple and restored the walls around Jerusalem.
