Breakthrough 93: Day 31

Written by Pastor Nelson Jones

You did it! We are at the end of 31 days of breakthrough devotionals!

Now I must share a very very important truth with you. After we have been confronted deeply by truth, it is very necessary to have the right response. For that we must return to the book of Nehemiah.

Israel is in a complete rebuild after being destroyed. They have rebuilt the temple and restored the walls around Jerusalem. They all gather after this and Ezra the priest brings the scriptures (the book of the law) out to read to them. Most of them did not know these truths and would be hearing them and understanding them in ways they had never before. For the full story read Nehemiah chapter 8, as I shall use only a few selections. Look what it says:

"They read from the book of the law of God and clearly explained the meaning of what was being read, helping the people understand each passage. Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them, "Don't mourn or weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God." For the people had all been weeping as they listened to the words of the law.

Nehemiah 8:8-9 NLT

They were weeping because as they heard the law, they understood how they, before God, were so flawed and so far from where he wanted them to be. They saw how they had offended him and why he had allowed them to be taken into slavery and defeated by their enemies. Jesus said:

"You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free!"

John 8:32 NIV

Once you have fully embraced where you are, it is time to move on and grow! Paul said:

"No dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us."

Philippians 3:13-14 NLT

Now back to Nehemiah. Watch how Nehemiah directs them to respond to the truth that they have just received.

And Nehemiah continued, "Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!"

Nehemiah 8:10 NLT

He is saying, truth has come, you have understood, don't weep, celebrate!

That is what I say to you at the end of Breakthrough 93. When truth comes and we understand, weeping must move to joy and celebration quickly! Whatever truth God has brought to you deeply through these meditations can cause us to weep because we understand how unlike God we are and how far we have to go. But remember truth sets us free, we are to forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead and press on!

So celebrate and let the joy of the Lord be your strength as you continue to break through! Love you guys!
