Day 24: A Secret of Impact

Written by Nelson Jones

"Receive and experience the amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, deep, deep within yourselves."

- Philippians 4:23 (Message)

OK, when did somebody let you off the hook, I mean a major league flub up and they didn’t hold your feet to the fire!!

Linda and I were on our way down to Winnipeg to visit her family and I was pushing the speed somewhat. I know that is very hard to believe! There is a stretch of highway between Saskatoon and Yorkton that is 330 kilometres of straight and unchanging road conditions and eternal fields of grain or in the winter snow!! I had just passed a truck and had left it in my rearview mirror when I saw the lights! You know the feeling! As I pulled over and waited for the officer to come to my window I knew I was a goner. After collecting my license, insurance and registration he asked me a very interesting question I had never been asked by an officer, "sir, what do you think I should do here?" I really did want to say give me a break please, that would be awesome but I knew I didn’t deserve it. I knew that I had been over the limit! I answered officer, "I don’t know what you should do here." Of course I did, by the law he should just give me one big fat ticket! I couldn’t bring myself to say that and I couldn’t bring myself to say give me a break. He repeated this question and I am telling you the honest truth, I repeated my answer. It was funny, I could not ask him to enforce the law and I could not ask him to give me grace. He gave me grace!

I still had well over 600 km to travel but when we went on our way, I paid attention to my speed more because of the grace he gave me! If he had given me a ticket I would’ve thought, I paid my price now I'll live on the edge again, but it was the grace he gave me that caused me to think it wasn’t just breaking the law, I was offending a man that cut me slack.

He made an impact on me! I do not remember the conversations on any other occasions of tickets but I do not forget his!! Being a grace giver is in my estimation the greatest impact that you will ever have on people. Receiving grace will create memories that you will never forget and an appreciation for those who gave it! This is a great secret of how to make impact. The ability to give and receive grace!

Meditation: OK, you already know this one I’m sure but let’s start here: Who is giving you grace for a major flub up but you find it very hard to receive? Complete the grace gift and receive it!

Next: Who needs a grace gift from you? Start the grace gift journey. The impact of this will far exceed what you think!

P. S. Linda just corrected me, he actually asked me that three times in a row. I’m thicker in the head than I thought I was!
