Day 22: Ripples

Written by Nelson Jones

This week we begin our final audit of 30 Days of Prayer, ‘The Audit of our Impact’.

The impact of our life is very hard to measure or audit, because we do not have any idea where the ripples hit the shore. Yet it is good to reflect on it as maybe the most important thing about impact is not how far the ripple goes but what the ripple achieves.

Hitler had a huge impact but not for the larger good! How we know that is we measure his ripple effects on people. Jesus had a massive impact and we measure that by His ripple effects on people!

So how do we measure ours? I guess the same way, how are we affecting people? Then there is the volume question: How many do we have to affect to make a difference? Depth or breadth? Billy Graham affected millions but the preacher whose message brought Billy Graham to Christ affected far less. So who had the greatest impact? Now you know why it can be very hard to measure.

I believe God wants us to focus on the measuring of impact within the day we are living not so much about our history or future but, what is the opportunities we have right now to make a difference for people? The ripple closest to where the pebble entered the water would seem to be the easiest to create. Who knows how far it will go but we do know we created one!

So the goal must be to create one ripple for good in the moment of time we are living and with the people we are with! That moment is a gift from God, what we do with it has ripples for good or otherwise. That we do control!

Meditation: As you go through your day visualize each people connection as your pebble entering the water. This happens whether you want it to or not. The only thing you control is the quality of the impact! Also do the opposite at the end of the day. Look back over each people connection and determine what the quality of that ripple was.

NOW YOU ARE ABLE TO BEGIN MEASURING YOUR IMPACT.
