Day 11: No Goliath, No David

Written by Nelson Jones

The valley of ELAH is the place where the most famous story in the Bible took place. A little boy named David met the giant Goliath and ever since then it has been known as a place of courage and faith!

Most of the time when we tell the story of David we talk about what David did to Goliath. But there was something that goliath did for David that was incredibly important!

David had been called and anointed to be the next king of Israel, but it was a title without authority. We’ve all received great gifts from God including how we are made, and behind that gift is in authority from God. When God gives us roles, gifts and the wiring we have, He backs it up with an authority to do what we need to do and what we are meant to do.

David had received an amazing call and gift from God, but up until the valley of ELAH it had only been expressed in the back woods, shepherding of a few sheep. He was definitely called for more. in the same way you also have greater potential‘s and opportunities. But it is not enough to have the call and the gifts, we must step into the authority that comes with them and take on the battles, despite great environments of fear. This is what Goliath did for David!

When David stepped on the battlefield in that valley, God used him in the place of the king and established him as an anointed one of God! That day all of David‘s wiring and his gifts were brought together in the authority of God for the task at hand! You also have many tasks ahead that will require your talents and gifts but it will also require entering into God‘s authority. It takes His power, His anointing to take down Goliaths, as dad, husband, wife, mother, Christian, etc.

Goliaths reveal who you are created to be in this world and establishes you in that. There is no David without Goliath and there is no you as you are intended to be without a Goliath, in fact many of them in life!

So every time you’re up against a goliath of a challenge, remember you were meant for this and it makes you who you’ve been intended to be!

Scripture:

"Don’t worry about a thing," David told Saul, "I’ll go fight this Philistine!"

- 1 Samuel 17:32

Meditation: In silence and stillness for a few minutes, contemplate that you also are a David in this world, in your family, place of work, your church, community, and there are all kinds of Goliaths that you are here to take out!
