The ability to turn around is a great gift from God!
Listen to this quote by CS Lewis
"We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man that turns back soonest is the most progressive."
That describes perfectly what repentance is. It is changing my direction in a 180° way!
In Romans 2:4 it says:
"God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance."
Jesus tells a story that perfectly illustrates God's kindness in his effort to bring us to repentance!
"A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally he said to his gardener, I've waited three years, and there hasn't been a single fig! Cut it down. It's just taking up space in the garden."
This is a picture of judgement for a fig tree that wasn't producing what it was designed for. But look at the kindness part!
"And the gardener answered,' sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I'll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.'"
Luke 13:6-9 NLT
Right now God is giving you special attention and plenty of fertilizer to bring you to that turn-around point in your life. Repentance is not a one time thing, we are always turning from things that we know are wrong and toward things that we know are good!
Now make Jesus the gardener in the story and read it again. You'll begin to understand deeper what he is doing and how he's doing it in your life.
It is time to be a true progressive!
