Thoughts About Worship
He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.
Psalm 147:10, 11 NKJV
We are born with a natural inclination to achieve and create. We can find great pleasure in something that we have done or something that we have created.
Sometimes we think of God as someone who delights in our achievements or that His approval of us comes from what we do. It is true that He expects us to follow the direction that He gives through His word and His Holy Spirit in our lives but how we respond to that is not tied to How much he loves us. He gives us that direction BECAUSE He loves us...He doesn't love us because we follow it. Everything starts in Him, including His love. God is not impressed by our abilities or our achievements because He gave those things to us anyway. God takes pleasure in a heart that is honest and open to Him. One that recognizes Him for who He is and understands the need for His mercy. That is true worship.
For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Hosea 6:6 NKJV
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
